Woodcarving Workshop with Designer, Melanie Abrantes Learn how to carve your very own wooden spoon!
Melanie Abrantes is a Bay Area-based producer of handcrafted, heirloom objects. She is joining us in the Yeah! tasting room to lead a hand carving workshop where participants will learn to carve their own wooden spoons using traditional Japanese tools and techniques.
The class will start with a discussion of different wood types, an explanation of the tools required, and an overview of the techniques used to cut wood. Once a basic understanding is acquired, Melanie will lead you in carving the bowl of the spoon with the spoon gouge, then designing and whittling the handle and top of the spoon. When the final design has been reached, you will sand and finish the spoon with an all-natural finish.
All tools will be provided to use during the workshop, with the option of purchasing the tools at a discounted rate to continue your bowl-making practice at home!
All levels, no experience needed.
You will leave this awesome workshop with a new skill. Best of all - you get to take your finished piece home with you!
